In these Family Guy clips from the episode “It Takes a Village Idiot, and I Married One,” Lois exercises her right wing, and finds out that fear sells just as well as sex. If she’d only added a few phrases like “I hate Hillary Clinton” or “I’d love to hump Ronald Reagan’s corpse” then the clip would’ve been completely identical to the first Republican debate.

At a time when the common Western citizen is fatter and more secure than any other citizen of the world, it’s incredible to think that playing on our fears would be so successful. America and Israel have used security concerns to justify their criminal activity for decades while the actual threat terrorism poses to either nation is over-exaggerated at best. For example, Israelis live in constant fear of Qassam rocket attacks, despite the fact that Palestinian rockets have only killed a total of 11 Israelis since 2001.

Lois even references yellowcake uranium during her fiesta of lies. Luckily for us, Family Guy isn’t afraid to show how politicians exaggerate or completely fabricate threats in order to control the public and serve their own interests.

  1. “At a time when the common Western citizen is fatter and more secure than any other citizen of the world, it’s incredible to think that playing on our fears would be so successful.”

Incredible? Hardly. The converse of Dylan’s famous lyric applies: Those with everything have the most to lose.

  2. Touché.

We should have a battle of the quotes. Aung San Suu Kyi, an activist and Nobel Prize winner from Burma, once said; “It is not power that corrupts but fear. Fear of losing power corrupts those who wield it and fear of the scourge of power corrupts those who are subject to it… Fear is not the natural state of civilized people”

  3. Zomg…humping Ronald Reagan’s corpse? Purty much says it all.

  4. […] that we couldn’t have imagined on Sept 12, 2001 - 7 years without a single terrorist attack. 9/11 has become a joke to you and your supporters, the heartbreak and helplessness this nation experienced during that day […]
