With all the bad press Hugo receives, it’s still a bit surprising to see a major news organization like CNN recklessly claim that you’re anti-American if you’re anti-Bush. This pro-corporate smear campaign against Chavez is taking the ridiculous stance that the Venezuelan president must be stopped because he’s trying to “influence American culture”. Does anyone fall for this pro-corporate propaganda piece? Chavez cares about “the US people” more than our own government, offering them free or inexpensive utilities when our own leaders have abandoned them. If Chavez is anti-American then what is Bush?
Well, I guess none of the facts matter because look - he’s hugging an evil Cuban commie!

I love the implication: Anti-Bush=Anti-American.
Um… to me that’s like saying Anti-Traitor=Anti-American.
It just doesn’t make sense.

I think there’s a perception in American Culture that Democracy is good and Socialism is bad. Since all attempts in history to introduce a socialism government has failed into shear dictatorship. I think that the truth about socialism versus democracy is a verdict that will come out sooner or later. Capitalism which root of our democracy is very dangerous, it oppresses people and brain washes them into a reality that is far from what people want. How many rights have been diminished just in the few years of Bush’s office. There’s no outrage, there’s no massive revolts. Why? because the Orwellian reality is that our people aren’t in tuned to reality and the are more in tuned to CNN, fox news, and all the other propaganda channels. Our dialogue and democracy has gone down the tube and all we can do is criticize Chavez. Go figure!

While it is true that Chavez is a socialist, the problem in our country is that we have taken anything that stands for the common good and called that ’socialism’. Anything that is best left to the public interest is actually deemed evil by these people and Americans turn around and say ‘thank you sir, may I have another?’. Health care should NOT be a for-profit enterprise. Our water utilities should NOT be a for-profit enterprise. War should not be a for-profit enterprise. Disaster relief should not be a for-profit enterprise. Education should (mostly) not be a for-profit enterprise.
And this administration purposely fucks up anything that it is charged with to prove that government is unfit to do that with which it is charged. Amazing, but I knew this when I was eight and purposely did my chores poorly so that my parents would understand that I was not capable of doing chores.
Chavez rightly believes that it is immoral to let foreign countries come to his country and exploit the natural resources of Venezuela for their own personal profit. Our own leaders used to feel that way, until we got some who only believe in personal profit. Trust me, they’d sell Texas to the Chinese if the price was right.

Dear Sirs,
Obviously, you are the other extreme. Extremes have never been good for anybody. I don’t know how to express my outrage against this Chavez regime. He may have had a good idea at the beginning, but what I see now is a mockery of the Venezuelan people who believed in him. I was one of them, but I must say, I was wrong. He became a monster, a narcisist that is accustomed to be heard by a bunch of people who are there to listen to his terrible discourse because they know they are going to get something from that, a person who has forgotten, or doesn’t care what the people in charged of other affairs are doing, like getting rich, and spending like there’s no tomorrow while there are so many destitute people in a country that depends on oil. How is it possible that a person who works for the gov. can buy a Hummer, a Rolls Royce or a car like that? You explain that to me?. You only see one side, and I’m pretty sure that I’m wasting my time with you.

I agree. Chavez has ransacked his country to promote his own image. Venezuela is undergoing a shortage of basic food items such as milk and sugar, since we all know the socialist system DOES NOT work. A perfect example of this is Cuba. I would choose Capitalism over Socialism any day.
