O’Reilly dismisses the argument that his anti-immigration stance has anything to do with race, then turns around and states that conservatives ought to be afraid of darkies integrating into society. Why? Because this could put an end to the “white Christian male power structure” which he and McCain have enjoyed the fruits of. Why should a privileged male WASP allow a good system of wage slavery to die for something as silly as equality?

Notice that McCain doesn’t correct O’Reilly and state that maintaining white power is not a valid concern with which to base US policy on, but instead goes on to say he understands this “legitimate fear”. Gee, I thought the Republicans wanted to keep Mexicans out for security reasons, not xenophobic ones. Well, since that’s the case I suggest we make a slight addition to the Emma Lazarus quote engraved in the Statue of Liberty.

“Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door… as long as they’re white!”

  1. OReilly is so fucking racist… At least he’s open about it though.

  2. This is an astonishingly candid look into O’Reilly’s perspective. I wouldn’t say he’s being entirely open or honest though. Notice how he doesn’t even attempt to explain why he believes breaking down the white male power structure is a bad thing for America or the world. He just says that the left wants to create a new power structure that isn’t dominated by white males, and because he and McCain (and his audience) are white males, they must resist that. It’s a simplistic but clever presentation of the issue, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he cries himself to sleep at night asking, “Who am I?”

    This same exact argument could have been (and was) used to mobilize white males against things like emancipation, women’s suffrage, desegregation, and so on. This view assumes without question that having power and control over other people – psychologically, institutionally, and physically – is good and makes us happy and fulfilled. This is why we must maintain that power. It ignores the argument that power and control is often self-defeating (not to mention lonely), in that in many very real ways greater equality and inclusively in society benefits everyone. If O’Reilly were really being honest he would bring someone on to debate these points…

  3. Why exactly is O’Reilly working on tv?

    Seriously, he sounds like a power freak who’s losing his grip!

  4. Consider also that “whiteness” is a contentious concept too - a convenient label for those in power to try to limit the opportunities of others.
    In some ways this comforts me, because at least O’Reilly isn’t being subtle. He seems pretty overtly racist, and that seems easier to confront. Also, the New York Times = the Far Left? Hehe.

    “If O’Reilly were really being honest he would bring someone on to debate these points…”

    Agreed, but we all know that’s not going to happen. The best we could hope for is him bringing Geraldo on to “debate” so they can yell at each other for an hour straight.

    @Nathan
    “Also, the New York Times = the Far Left? Hehe.”

    Yeah, far left in the way that Hillary Clinton is far left. Obviously, anyone more liberal than that is just insane.

  6. Put an end to the “white Christian male power structure!” If only it were so easy.

  7. […] Lou Dobbs has warned us that Americans are not just losing jobs because of immigrants, but also body parts. We need to put our foot down while we still have one left. As confirmed by John Hodgman, Faux News correspondents are not racist. They’re simply aware of the undeniable fact that Mexicans are dirty disease-carrying rapists. Conservatives merely want them to stay on their side of the fence so that our white power structure doesn’t fall apart - literally. Okay, enough bad jokes. Enjoy the clip. […]
