CNN Republican Debate

If you didn’t get your fill of question-dodging and outright lying a few nights ago, then the following ought to satisfy your masochistic quota. Wolf starts out by asking the candidates if it was the right decision to go to war in Iraq. This is a simple question which should be answered with a simple “no” by every sane person on the planet. However, Neocons have never cared much for sanity. I agree that every candidate should have to answer tough questions from the moderator about their votes to authorize or fund the war, but so too should the pro-peace candidates ask Blitzer about the instrumental role that networks like CNN played in the lead up to war. We wouldn’t be where we are without the complacency of the media, and yet we’re relying on them to hold pro-war candidates accountable? Welcome to the great debate of Pot v. Kettle.

Like CNN’s Democratic Debate, the Republican Debate had the most honest candidate stationed at the far end of the stage. Despite that fact, Paul was still able to get some applause when Wolf allowed him to speak. Of course, it’s no surprise that CNN would edge Paul, Gravel, and Kucinich out of the debates. Why would a corporate news network allow any of these three men to compete on a level playing field?

In the first Republican Debate, the candidates had visible hard-ons for torture. In this debate they’ve moved beyond that subject to describe how they would carry out a preemptive nuclear strike on Iran! Giuliani even calls Iran a “nuclear threat”. Wtf? I suggest he keep his mouth shut before his reading list gets even longer. Unfortunately, the circle jerk over nuclear holocaust was brought to an end with the divisive topic of immigration. Take a guess at which side won the crowd over on that topic.

One Response to “CNN Republican Debate”

  1. Well, watching this shit even more painful than the Democratic Q & A. They’re answers were just as vague and evasive as the Dems, but not nearly as often. But even the clear answers were clearly ignorant/arrogant. So I don’t know what’s worse…
The exceptions were of course Ron Paul, and, surprisingly, John McCain. I’ve always listened to McCain, and at one point I wished he ran for president. Now that he’s running, he seems to have a different platform, and I don’t think we’re on the same page anymore. But I still listen to him, because every so often he says something very positive, and very intelligent. I sincerely hope that in 2008, he’s appointed to some position in the Executive Cabinet, even if it’s a Democratic Presidency.
So yes, Ron Paul and John McCain were my only oases in this desert of ChristianoFascist Imperialism. (McCain, however, was a small oasis!)
