Well, we have good news and bad news. The good news is that the US government has finally confessed to playing both sides of the conflict by backing Sunni insurgents. The bad news is that they think this is a good idea. Senior Iraq Correspondent Aasif Mandvi explains how we can actually win by increasing violence.

First off, it’s well known that more US troops are killed by Sunni insurgents supplied with Saudi and American weaponry than by anything Iranian, yet increases in violence are constantly linked to Iran by the White House and people like Traitor Joe. Secondly, we’ve been supporting Sunnis not only in Iraq, but throughout the Middle East with groups such as Fatah al-Islam. This particular US-backed group is currently fighting with the US-backed government in Lebanon. Blowback anyone? Third, these insurgents are supposed to fight al-Qaeda. Does anyone in the military remember that al-Qaeda is also a radical Sunni group, started with aid and training from the US? We are essentially training new terrorists to fight the old terrorists we created the exact same way almost 20 years ago.

If I didn’t automatically accept that America wants freedom and democracy in the Middle East, I’d be inclined to think that we’re in the business of spreading terrorism to destabilize the entire region.

  1. *sigh*
So I used to be a little peeved at the fact that the World Trade Center Memorial site is still but a hole in the ground, but now, what’s the point? It’ll just be knocked down in 20 years by US trained and armed terrorists.

Yeah, you’re probably right, what are the chances?
