A new 5-minute video contradicts claims Hillary Clinton has made, previously stating that she was unaware her 2000 senate campaign was violating hard money campaign finance laws. Hollywood mogul Peter Franklin Paul spent nearly $2 million of his own money to put on the event described in the video. The legal limit is $2,000, while a contribution of $25,000 or more is a felony punishable by up to five years behind bars. Clinton has denied through 6 years of investigation that she was directly involved with Paul in producing the Hollywood fundraiser, even claiming that Paul never gave any money to her campaign.

Clinton’s participation in the planning of the event would make Paul’s substantial contributions a direct donation to her Senate campaign rather than her joint fundraising committee, violating federal statutes that limit “hard money” contributions to a candidate to $2,000 per person. Knowingly accepting or soliciting $25,000 or more in a calendar year is a felony carrying a prison sentence of up to five years.

Paul’s complaint charges President Clinton destroyed his entertainment company to get out of a $17 million deal in which Clinton promised to promote the firm in exchange for stock, cash options and massive contributions to his wife’s 2000 campaign. Paul contends he was directed by the Clintons and Democratic Party leaders to foot the bill for the Hollywood event.

In the tape, Clinton is heard via speakerphone thanking Paul, business partner Stan Lee and other colleagues for their efforts in putting together the fundraiser……In another portion of the tape, Clinton is heard discussing her direct solicitation of a large contribution from the entertainer Cher. Paul’s legal team, the U.S. Justice Foundation, argues the value of Cher’s performance alone vastly exceeded the FEC limits.

The Huffington Post has also reported that, among the Democratic presidential candidates, Hillary has the most ties to the special interest community. Does that surprise anyone? The article summarizes just who the major players are that own Mrs. Clinton.

  1. It is not my intention to defend Hillary Clinton as a good presidential candidate. She certainly does not have my vote.

However- it doesn’t sound like she’s doing any planning here. It sounds like she’s thanking Paul’s crew for all their planning. She’s not making any requests. She’s just.. small talking with them. THIS is a felony? Perhaps I don’t understand how people planning an event to support a political candidate are supposed to do it legally… are they not to talk at all with the candidate in question?

I’m not saying she didn’t do anything wrong- I’m just unclear what this tape is proving.

It’s a bit confusing. The tape shows Hillary did know of Paul’s involvement in the event beforehand, contrary to her claims of complete ignorance. Clinton has claimed that Paul gave no money to her campaign, and denies that she had anything to do with soliciting contributions directly from donors. Doing so would make Paul’s $2 million contribution a direct donation to her Senate campaign, rather than her joint fundraising committee, violating federal statutes that limit “hard money” contributions to $2,000 per person.

Personally, I could care less about this scandal than her vote for the war, but I did feel it was a fairly newsworthy story, even if nothing more becomes of it.
