Taking the advice of what little base he has left, President Bush commuted the sentence of former White House aide Lewis “Scooter” Libby today. This move came only hours after a federal appeals panel ruled that Libby could not delay his 2 �-year prison term in the CIA leak case.

Trying to explain why his accomplices in the lead up to war are above the law yet again, Bush said, �I respect the jury�s verdict, but I have concluded that the prison sentence given to Mr. Libby is excessive. Therefore, I am commuting the portion of Mr. Libby�s sentence that required him to spend thirty months in prison.�

Scooter was convicted of lying to authorities and obstructing justice in March. The Decider has left a $250,000 fine and two years probation intact in what he described as “a harsh punishment for Mr. Libby.” Libby was the highest-ranking White House official to be sentenced to prison since the Iran-Contra affair (a past scandal which the current Secretary of Defense knows a thing or two about).
