Rageh Omaar returns to occupied Gaza after 10 years. He reports a dramatic change in the disparity of average Palestinians, and is able to obtain an exclusive interview with Sheikh Salah Dughmush, who is critical of the coverage given to the kidnapping of one BBC correspondent when thousands of Palestinians are currently detained by the Israelis. Omaar correctly states, “It’s bitterly ironic that Alan’s story has lead to the one thing he wanted to avoid, Gaza’s tragedy being sidelined.”

The recent kidnapping of BBC journalist Alan Johnston has uncovered the hypocrisy of the western news media for failing to cover similar tragedies when they occur to Palestinians. In fact, a Palestinian journalist was shot by the Israeli military just yesterday, yet the story was simply not reported by western news sources. Unfortunately, the only way Westerners will hear these stories is through the internet, but you know that already.
