Part 1 of 2

Six black students at Jena High School in Central Louisiana were arrested last December. The students, ranging from 15 to 17 years of age, were the victims of several life threatening incidents by white students. After each of these incidents, the institution protected the white students. This racial tension, which mounted after a black student sat under a tree in the schoolyard where only white students sat, continued until a white student suffered a concussion and multiple bruises in a fight. Six black students were charged with attempted murder and conspiracy. Some face up to 100 years in prison without parole.
