Blakkbox’s “Welcome to War” and Current TV

If you’re unfamiliar with Current TV, get familiar. They consistently produce some of the most intelligent, provocative, and entertaining reporting around — all by “amateur” journalists. I’m particularly a fan of their international stuff. They’ve put out compelling pods (short documentaries) on issues like political life in Syria, the arms and diamond trades in Africa, the culture of martyrdom in Palestine, the meaning of torture (with an extensive demonstration of waterboarding), and North Korea (they secured a rare three-day trip for two of their journalists). In addition to their serious stuff they also produce a ton of really hilarious content, both political and not at all.

But I come to share, not proselytize, so here’s a recent video contribution which takes an on-the-ground look at last summer’s Israel-Lebanon war. I was initially skeptical of the surfer dudes of “Blakkbox,” but after watching the first three parts of their seven-part series on the war, I’m a believer. This is good stuff, and like nothing you will see anywhere else. This is the first episode, “Wecome to War.” Check out the next two videos released in the series so far here (“Oil Bomb”) and here (“20 Ground Zeros”). Let me know if you’re into it and I’ll post the upcoming episodes as they air.

I tend to be very careful about examining all sides of an issue, so I’m compelled to say from the outset that all of the episodes released so far are filmed inside Lebanon and reflect that perspective. The war has been debated to death, but I’ll share my own perspective if there’s an interest in more of these videos.
