Davis Fleetwood has had one hell of a week. First he contributed to our latest 35 Percenters video by making a fool out of himself in a diner (undoubtedly the highlight of the journey), then met up with fellow vloggers at the Democratic Presidential Debate in South Carolina, had his question for Dennis Kucinich aired on CNN, and finally made a detour to New York where he interviewed Cindy Sheehan after she had announced she’d be running against Nancy Pelosi. Me thinks we’ll have to repeal his Hermit title. I get tired just typing all of that out.
Cindy talks about her reception in DC after Conyers and Pelosi failed to show any leadership by acting on the impeachment deadline of July 23rd. Conyers basically told Sheehan that voting a Democrat into the presidency is more important than ending the war or protecting the Constitution. It’s a bit odd that Democratic politicians still insist that it’s important for the Left to vote a Democrat into office when they purposefully go against the Left at every opportunity. Conyers then had her and 46 others arresting for staging a sit-in. Contrary to Mr. Conyers’ assertion that voting for Democrats in ‘08 is the most we can do, we know that democracy is not just something that happens once every four years. Cindy and Davis then go on to discuss the motive behind the military industrial complex, the link between war and profit, the lack of integrity in the Democratic Party, and the economic inequality we have at home.
Despite tremendous public opposition to the war, the actual anti-war movement still struggles to find active and effective leadership. As Congressman Kucinich says, the Democratic Party has failed the American people. They simply don’t listen to the Left because they know we have nowhere else to turn. To support Cindy, visit The Camp Casey Peace Institute. She has a fairly good chance of winning. To borrow a phrase from a previous era: if the government won’t stop the war, we will stop the government.
