Concern in Gaza’s Hospitals as Power Cuts Hit

The only power plant in the Gaza Strip was shut down after the European Union suspended the financing of fuel deliveries. The EU claims this action was taken for security purposes, but sources cite financial reasons. Up to 50 percent of occupied Gaza was out of power after a lack of fuel forced the plant to shutdown. Dor Alon, the Israeli energy company that delivers the fuel said that the EU “told us not to deliver because there is no guarantee that we will receive payment for today’s fuel”.

Settlers Reroute Palestinian Drinking Water for Swimming Pool

A pipe, which is meant to carry fresh drinking water to the West Bank village of Dir al-Khatab, was cut and rerouted to fill a swimming pool by residents of the illegal Elon Moreh settlement. The pool itself is located at a picnic site which was once part of the Palestinian village before it too was stolen by the settlers. The Israeli settlers then drained the dirty water back into the village’s water system.

“They not only use water that doesn’t belong to them, but they also pollute the drinking water of some of the village residents,” said Yoel Marshak, head of the Kibbutz Movement’s Special Assignments Branch. “The little kids pee in the water, which flows straight to the taps of the Palestinian school.”

The Civil Administration has issued a demolition order for the picnic site following complains by the Palestinian residents. Benny Katzover, one of the community leaders in the illegal Jewish settlement, claims no wrong was done.
