Deaths are Down in Iraq… Unless You Actually Count Them

Wolf Blitzer caught Republican Congressman Charles Boustany in an outright lie issued by General Petraeus and perpetuated by many members of congress clinging to any life raft which might justify their authorization and support for this genocide in Iraq. Blitzer cites Iraqi health ministry statistics which report Iraqi civilian deaths have risen from 1,227 in June, 1,753 in July, and 1,773 in August.

Faced with actual facts, Boustany claims he didn’t say what he just said. He then diverts attention away from the body count and presents us with the fact that because US Congressmen have been able to walk through certain areas, Iraq must be safer than it was before. Blitzer shoots down that argument as well by adding what Boustany omitted - that any American “strolling” through Iraq has needed an entire platoon to surround them because the country isn’t safe. Wolf’s journalistic integrity may only appear as often as Haley’s comet, but when it does show up it’s a beautiful thing (or a sign of the apocalypse).
