It was quite clear from Tuesday’s episode of his show, that Tucker was intent on painting Dennis as an anti-American traitor once he got back from his trip to Syria. However, Dennis held his own as loaded question after load question was fired his way. Kucinich drew attention to the fact that our destructive occupation of Iraq is not simply isolated to that nation, but has had disastrous effects throughout the region.
Kucinich states that 1.5 million refugees are in Syria with nothing but the clothes on their back and Tucker simply replies by stating that Syria is a terrorist state? This is a fairly big issue which Dennis is trying to draw attention to, yet Tucker simply passes it over. Isn’t the job of a journalist to report such a refugee crisis, not attack politicians from the opposing party who do their job for them? Tucker obviously didn’t listen to a word Dennis said the entire interview, and just waited for his turn to spout his pre-written insinuations about the congressman.
What’s just as disturbing as Carlson’s attempt to smear a Democratic Presidential candidate as anti-American is his misunderstanding of history. As is typical of any supporter of authoritarianism, Tucker believes that positive change comes from the top down. The idea that democracy can be achieved through undemocratic coercion is misguided to say the least. We managed to make it out of the Cold War alive in spite of the Peace Through Strength Strategy, not because of it. Dinosaurs like Hillary Clinton still strongly support this doctrine as the cornerstone of our foreign policy, and Tucker’s argument about Dennis’ visit being used “for propaganda purposes” seems to have been taken directly from one of her YouTube/CNN debate answers. This seemingly benevolent doctrine of global military and economic domination has brought with it the same security problems which faced previous imperialist nations, only with the added bonus of nuclear weapons being globally available as its byproduct.
What’s truly sad is that this kind of attack coverage is the only airtime Dennis Kucinich gets from the mainstream media. In that regard, perhaps we should thank Tucker for at least allowing Dennis to talk, something most talking heads still haven’t done. Bad publicity is perhaps better than no publicity.
One major hat tip to C-SpanJunkie for recording the interview and Bluegal for informing me of it.

You’re very welcome. Tucker is a weenie. He wasn’t letting Dennis talk he was trying to appear to be listening (a very different thing since it is all about Tucker) and also he was lining up his AIPAC talking points in his brain. and that cold war crap was so school boy smarmy it made me feel all icky like I need a shower.

Thanks for posting this! This type of loaded journalism is disgusting, though I know we’re all used to it since it is the norm. The great thing about Dennis is that he is too smart to get defensive under these backhanded attacks and the truth of his policy positions always shine through…in the, yes, all too rare times he is featured in the mainstream media.

Just to clarify, Tucker Carlson is NOT a journalist. He’s a Pundit, right up there with Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh, Bill O’Reilly, Nick Cavuto, and every other moron of the sort. Newsmen they are not.
By the way, once again Kucinich proves his wit, intelligence, and tact. Well done, as always.

The fact that Tucker is a pundit and not a reporter was demonstrated with perfect clarity by his resorting to the rather sloppy revisionist history that characterizes the “best” of his breed. His smug assertion that the neocon doctrine of “Peace through Strength” had ended the Cold War is something like the political equivalent of calling a kidnapper/rapist a hero for being caught. Three cheers for the sociopath!
As any casual student of history - or sentient human being who can read - should know, it was the very doctrine of “Peace through Strength” that PERPETUATED the Cold War for nearly fifty years and cost the United States literally trillions of dollars. Poor Tucker. I guess no one ever told him about Mikhail Gorbachev, whose reforms in response to the Soviet Union’s collapsing economy shifted the country’s priorities away from the arms race and effectively brought the Cold War to an end. History can be really simple when you actually read it.
Maybe they’re just par for the course, but I think Tucker’s comments merit him a nomination to Olbermann’s “Worst Person in the World” crackdown.
