On Sunday, Israel reduced fuel supplies into Gaza due to rocket attacks they blame on Hamas. Human rights organizations and the UN have told Israel that it must not engage in collective punishment by denying vital supplies to the 1.5 million residents in Gaza. This violation of international law and human rights comes after Israel declared the occupied territory a “hostile entity” in September.

A petition from 10 human rights groups has since persuaded Israel’s Supreme Court to rule that the government has just five days to justify its decision to impose sanctions. However, the sanctions will continue during that time. Israel’s Attorney General will also review a decision taken by Defense Minister Ehud Barak to enforce periodic electricity cuts in Gaza. The occupied territory is completely dependent on Israel for trade.

If you have about 10 minutes to spare, the video above is a short but insightful documentary into the current politics of Gaza. It shows the consequences of Hamas’ tight rule, the result of Fatah’s imposed doctor strike, and the activities of al-Aqsa Martyrs inside Gaza.
