Maher says his writers love the Daily Kos, which actually explains quite a lot. Bill played the roll of Hillary apologist during most of the segments with the panel, but was able to pull off a fairly good show regardless. It was Maher’s interpretation of the Democratic debate that I found the most fault with. Bill talks so much about the Democrats “not having the balls” to stand up for what’s right, but continues to praise fascists like Hillary and dismiss liberals like Kucinich. It seems to me that Maher shouldn’t complain about the Democrats who don’t have balls if he’s not going to support the ones that actually do.

Markos himself is another hypocrite who toes the party line for corporate candidates, but bitches about what the results of such a partisan strategy brings. Alison Stewart was the overall light of reason on the panel, saying that Clinton is only the frontrunner because the media says she is, and that such fabricated reporting takes away from better candidates. The best part of the show for me was when Stewart and Martin Short actually made media history by defending Dennis Kucinich. You can even hear Markos release a bitchy little groan of disgust when Short says “I love Dennis Kucinich,” and gets applause from the audience. Much like the spin the mainstream media shovels out, Markos himself dismissed the sentiment of the audience by treating Kucinich as a loon without citing any policies that would support that claim.

Maher’s final “Crass Warfare” segment at the end of New Rules was particularly good, though its revolutionary sentiment was contradictory to most of what he and Markos were defending during most of the show.

  1. Maher nails it with his analysis of the rich and uber rich. Wealth inequality has been a hallmark of American culture for a long time now. Back in the 50’s the corporate income tax was much higher than it is today. And “joe public” is ultimately to blame for electing politicians who do a disservice to the nation. The public gets the government it deserves and it’s thanks to those Americans who keep voting for right-wing, religious politicians that we a worsening of the divide between rich and poor.

  2. I could not agree more- he plays it both sides that way and it is one of the things I do not like about Maher.

Personally I think he just wants a notch in his belt for schtupping Hillary one day. As f*cking if!

  3. […] what about Kucinich? Both the mainstream left and the netroots have been killing Kucinich for years, and yet, who’s the one who had the balls to stand up and demand that Darth Cheney be held […]

  4. Maher actually has a point when they’re talking about Kucinich’s UFO comment in the debate. Granted, it was a bogus question. But Kucinich didn’t answer it as he should have. He should have said exactly what Maher suggested, because any other answer just plays into the trap set by Pumpkinhead and the rest of the Hitlery-humping media.
