Our good friend in the struggle and fellow 35%er Davis Fleetwood has been doing some investigative journalism lately into why Dennis Kucinich was excluded from the Des Moines debate. In the great tradition of Greg Palast and Michael Moore, Davis goes straight to the source with a camera to ask some tough questions.
It’s hard to believe the Democratic Party when they say they had nothing to do with Kucinich’s exclusion. Their strategy of capitulation has undermined democracy and consolidated power into the hands of their corporate backers throughout the decades. Inaction has proved to be very profitable. It’s also rather outrageous that a private power can even exclude a presidential candidate with its own criteria to override the constitutional criteria of a country which claims to be a democracy. The process ceases to be democratic the moment business takes control of it. Not only was the criteria of the corporate media based on the financial ability of a candidate to set up a storefront office, but Davis Fleetwood reveals that it wasn’t even consistently applied to all candidates.
Due to this blatant level of fraud, the following did not come as a surprise:
The Des Moines Register’s editorial board has endorsed Republican Sen. John McCain and Democratic Sen. Hillary Clinton for the 2008 Iowa caucuses.
The Register, Iowa’s statewide newspaper, calls McCain and Clinton the candidates it believes are most competent and ready to lead…
…The Register’s editorial board members who participated in the endorsement process were: Laura Hollingsworth, publisher; Carolyn Washburn, editor; Carol Hunter, editorial page editor; Linda Lantor Fandel, deputy editorial page editor; Rox Laird, editorial writer; and Andie Dominick, editorial writer.
This injustice needs to be further exposed until every citizen is aware of it. Please share this video with everyone you know and sign the petition to the Democratic Party to keep Dennis in the debates. Kucinich raised ? million $ on D15?
POSTED BY: Brian317 on 12/17/2007 01:11:16 [ QUOTE ]
i’m not sure if this is the official tally, but an intern said it was around 80k. the average was 10 dollars per person.
ron paul broke a single day primary fund raising record today generating over 6 million in one day. the average was 50.00 per person.
i’d have to say that i am quite surprised at the support ron has and the apparent lack of support our guy has. sad.

Democracy in America is a farce, not unlike the present administration. Given half the chance I’d have Dennis Kucinich top the vote in every primary caucus and bring a real Democrat to power.
Peace!

The difference between the Paul/Kucinich campaigns is organization. One could not contribute online all day. After weeks of promotion, there was little information on the campaign website. I wrote asking about what was happening and recived a reply at 2AM (while I was sleeping).
It is as if no one is really piloting the ship.
I have shared my views with the HQ. I ask that everyone else share your views with them, as well.
Paul is attractive to many Indys, as well. Paul says he won’t shift, so there may be a hole opened on the Indy side. My wish is that Dennis and Ron would both switch and we would see a combined Kucinich/Paul ticket. I am confident it would win hands down.

Replying to the poster above, I find a Kucinich/Paul pairing bordering on implausible. While there are a few similarities between a left-liberal and a Libertarian, the broad sweeping difference in policy would doom any such union. Furthermore, I’m not convinced they would be electable.
I am saddened that Kucinich was left out of the debate but my hope is that he will make a decent showing in the primaries in spite of it.

Although I do not consider myself to be solely affiliated with a single political party, and I tend to eschew partisan politics in general; I have also voted Democratic in all but two general elections. I have never voted for a Republican candidate for the presidency. Yet this year I have reregistered Republican to vote for Rep. Ron Paul in the California primary election. And I believe Paul will win the presidency.
Why? Well a previous poster here sums it up nicely: Plausibility. I switched my support from Congressman Kucinich several months ago, because it became apparent that he would not win for a number of reasons. True progressives support Kucinich for plenty of justifiable reasons. Yet the Democratic party has abandoned any true progressive ideals, and they will shut Kucinich out of the national debate once more. Unfortunately, Kucinich cannot seem to run a good campaign regardless of his own personal convictions and the fervent belief of his supporters. Personally, I believe this is due to Kucinich’s own philosophy of top down, or hierarchical management. Such a structure is not nearly as strong as Paul’s unstructured and spontaneous campaign. Paul was able to raise over five million dollars each on two specific days and it wasn’t even organized by his campaign! I believe it is because of the message, which has a way of unifying something within the majority of Americans. That something is a love of liberty, and a justifiable suspicion of authority. Kucinich has a message that could certainly stand on its own should the Democratic party wish to embrace it, but it does not cross ideological lines like Ron Paul’s.
I am getting older, and less Socialist with age. I suppose my Libertarian leanings are becoming more pronounced. I have less faith in government and governance in general. I am tired of being treated like a child by autocrats and progressives alike. Government has failed us time and time again. Not to say the intentions are not golden, but it always gets hijacked by the greedy and power-hungry. Eliminate government’s influence over our lives, reduce its size and scope, and you will also prevent our meddling in the world’s affairs and all the unnecessary bloodshed that is wrought because of it. A return to Constitutional governance is the only way we will regain our liberties. It will not be an easy road, but it is the only road worth traveling.
