Filipinos celebrate 22nd year of People Power with cries of “Gloria, Resign!”

  • Filipinos commemorated the 22nd year of the famous “people power” movement that ended the 20 year Marcos dictatorship. Thousands of Filipinos participated in the event, all calling for President Gloria Arroyo to resign amidst accusations of corruption. Read more here.
  • A mass at Baclaran church, led by former President Cory Aquino and whistle-blower Jun Lozada, was attended by anti-Arroyo forces which included former cabinet members, church leaders, university students, workers, and businessmen. Read more here.
  • President Arroyo, after surviving two impeachment attempts, now faces calls urging her to resign after whistle blower Jun Lozada revealed irregularities in the bloated US $330 million national broadband project which involved her and First Gentleman Mike Arroyo.
  • Mrs. Arroyo admitted Saturday that she was warned last April about possible corruption in the US $330 million contract with Chinese telecommunications giant ZTE Corp, but said her government could not immediately back off from signing a deal. Read more here.
