Iowa Republican Congressman Steve King said this in an interview with KCID radio on Friday regarding the possibility of an Obama presidency.

“And I will tell you that if he is elected president, then the radical islamists, the al-Qaeda and the radical Islamists and their supporters will be dancing in the streets in greater numbers than they did on September 11th.”

This is ignorant even for the party that knows nothing about the Middle East. At the 2006 Republican Party of Iowa state convention, King also said the following regarding the recent death of a top al-Qaeda operative, receiving much laughter and applause: “There probably are not 72 virgins in the hell he’s at and if there are, they probably all look like Helen Thomas.”

Aside from his regular tendency to make insulting remarks, I think we should apply King’s logic equally by insisting that anyone with the last name “King” should be removed from office since their presence in our constitutional republic must make the British royal family happy. Is this really the message we want to send to supporters of the monarch?

By the way, anyone who uses the phrase “global war on terror” seriously and without irony is an automatic asshat to begin with.
