Just as MLK had to be whitewashed into an image which does not threaten the rule of American tyranny, so too has the true message of Christianity been altered to justify the illegitimate rule of immoral institutions. As has been evident with the recent persecution of Reverend Jeremiah Wright by Democrats and Republicans alike, the United States feels threatened by the liberation theology of Christianity, just as the Roman Empire did during the time of Jesus Christ.

  6. Great video Manila.

    Liberation theology was widely used in South America and especially by my favorite educational theorist, Paulo Freire, who published several books on education for critical consciousness. Rev Wright was using critical theory (knowingly or not) to raise the consciousness of his parishioners about the evil american empire where we reside. Let’s hope he raises the consciousness of white america.

  10. When I first heard Rev. Wright’s remarks, the first thing I thought of was, “Whoops, probably shouldn’t have said that.” I didn’t think this because of any of the reasons he gave. In fact, I think his arguments regarding the US foreign policy in the Middle East make a helluva lot more sense than the explanations given by other religious leaders. You know, the Pat Robertson/Jerry Falwell assertion that the towers were brought down by Gays, Feminists, and Abortion. (I had no idea these things had super powers! Really? So a man’s penis entering another man’s ass sends out a pulse or shockwave strong enough to level entire skyscapers? And Butch Dykes and Aborted Fetuses have the same power? No wonder they’re scared!)

    Anyway, back to what I was saying. I was worried about Wright’s statements, not because of any flaw of logic, aside from the whole God thing, but because I knew the press, being representative of the most sensitive and bitchy conservatives in the country, would be all over this like maggots on meat. However, unlike actual maggots, which don’t discriminate between different types of rotting flesh, the press would devote show after show and pundit after pundit to Obama’s “hatred” for America, all the while ignoring the aforementioned Christian Right leaders’ vindication by John McCain.

    Am I missing something here?

    Nope, none of this would have been an issue if Wright were white. That’s pretty clear. Even more disgusting is that the pundits denouncing Wright frequently called him a racist and got a free pass in doing so. Imagine that.

  12. ‘Hypocrisy’ not ‘democracy’ rules America; sadly, the world too. Have been the same major players performing ‘hypocritics’ for millennia.

    I offer this to ‘we the people.’ It’s old news, but it’s so dastardly new to the unawakened citizen he/she deserves to be told… Open Your Mind
