Francesca Martinez Explains Her Olympic Torch Protest

Protesters attempted to extinguish the Olympic torch in London with a fire extinguisher. 35 arrests were made.

A protective ring of 10 Chinese flame attendants and fluorescent-jacketed police officers surrounded the torchbearers at all times, with additional uniformed officers joining at potential flashpoints along the route.

Police decided the torch should travel along Fleet Street to St Paul’s Cathedral by bus, rather than held by a runner, after it was surrounded by a large group of protesters.

  1. I think protesting can be a noble cause and is definitely the right of anyone who chooses to do it, as long as it is peaceful.

    Sometimes it can be difficult to keep a protest peaceful when protestors get caught up in the heat of the moment. For that reason I think sometimes it might be better to find an alternative means of protesting such as protesting online perhaps? A site that lets people do that is iProtest for instance. Just my 2 cents.
