Though it’s important not to hypocritically demonize China by drawing more attention to their occupation of Tibet so as to divert attention away from the illegality of our own American empire (as US politicians and media pundits are doing), we do have an obligation to stand in solidarity against all occupation regardless of who the occupier is.

Officials kept the torch burning through a turbulent day of protests in London on Sunday but extinguished the torch amid stormy scenes as the delegation boarded a bus in Paris.

French police were forced to drive back pro-Tibet activists trying to reach the foot of the Eiffel Tower, using loudhailers to demand that protesters carrying Tibetan flags leave a security zone.

Similar demands were not made to those carrying French or Chinese flags.
