  • Israel’s latest incursion into Gaza has killed 8 civilians thus far, 4 of which are children. Israeli tanks entered Gaza earlier today, accompanied by bulldozers and two assault helicopters. The latest deaths bring the number of Palestinians killed by Israeli strikes since the Annapolis meetings to 385. Israel’s strategy to establish peace in the region mirrors the strategy employed by America in Iraq, kill everyone and violence is bound to drop along with population levels.
  • NWA had a song called “I ain’t the one”.
  • Happy Coup Day everyone! April 11th marks the day in 2002 when we brought democracy to Venezuela until the locals ruined it by re-installing Sean Penn’s coke buddy after 47 hours. On a related note, the head of the Organization of American States told Congress yesterday that no link between the Venezuelan government and FARC rebels exists despite our insistence to the contrary. Those damn facts ruin everything. Next thing you know they’ll be telling us Iran didn’t threaten to wipe Israel off the map.
  • In an Absolut World, xenophobes would stop being outraged over ads which remind us of the historical fact that the United States illegally invaded Mexico and took half of their land. Oh, and Ricky Gervais would sell every product.

  1. Thanks for the link!

  2. Learn your history, man. Texas (at the time was mostly made up of American settlers, as all of the Southwest in the 19th was completely depopulated) seceded from Mexico and was later annexed by the United States. Mexico was then stupid enough to declare war on the US, and then the American settlers in California declared independence from Mexico, and California was then annexed by the US. America never invaded or stole anything.

  3. Sorry KazigluBey, but Mexico declared war two months after the US declared war on them. And American citizens seceding Mexican land? Please.

The border between Mexico and the US was at the Nueces River, which is about halfway through what we know as Texas. The United States claimed it was further back to the Rio Grande, Polk sent forces into Mexican territory, then used the death of US soldiers to justify an all out war to grab more land. It was the original Gulf of Tonkin incident.

Your assertion that America never invaded and that the war was legitimate would be hotly contested by Lincoln, Grant, and John Quincy Adams.

  4. I still don’t see why we had to annex fuckin’ Texas. It’s not what they wanted, and given the amount of idiot wackjob politicians to come out of that “Republic,” it’s not what we should want either.

On the other hand, I sure love a good BBQ.

  5. Mexico declared war when they attacked US soldiers. They had already told the US that if they annexed Texas they would declare war. It was no surprise to anyone. And since Mexico never recognized Texas as an independent republic, they didn’t have any official boundary anyway.

I know you hate the west for some reason, but every once in a while you should try to be objective about the stuff you post. Texas and California seceding from Mexico is the exact same thing as Mexico seceding from the Spanish Empire. So I guess the mexican “illegally” stole Spain’s land? Is there even such a thing as a legal war?
