Jesse Ventura for President?

Jesse Ventura is ready to start the revolution and Sean Hannity is about to become the first casualty. Ventura also stands by a previous statement in which he said Sean is a corporate puppet. As usual, Alan rushes in to save his Republican master by diverting Jesse’s attention back to 9/11 and the possibility of a presidential run. Whether you agree with Ventura’s politics or not, you’ve gotta love someone who unapologetically refuses to play by the rules, yet can still win the game.

Jesse sure seems to have upgraded his aspirations since we last saw him talking with Blitzer about becoming a Senator. In reality, he probably doesn’t plan on running for either office, but if feigning interest in becoming a presidential contender is what it takes to get on television and say something out of the ordinary then more power to him.

  1. […] by buelahman on April 12, 2008 The Largest Minority has a video clip up of a Fox News (Sean Hannity/Alan Colmes) interview with Jesse […]

  2. “If you get me ballot access in all fifty states and get me in the debates, I’d run and I’d win.”

After watching this interview I’d say he’s probably right. That guy speak is not afraid to speak the truth.

  3. I love this guy. He was a hero to me as a wrestler, but as a Navy SEAL, he was a hero to the country long before that. And it can be argued that he’s a hero now.

He brings up a very good point regarding 9/11, and that is everyone who questions it is immediately attacked. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m no Truther. In my opinion those guys are just as wack as the “Don’t Taze Me Bro.”
(Disclaimer: No, I don’t think he deserved to be tazed, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t a dipshit.)
However, I don’t think it’s right to immediately attack someone over a question. Notice Ventura’s answers to their attacks was “I don’t know.” That’s because “I don’t Know” is the very motivation for asking a question in the first place! (Unlike the Truthers, who, very much like religious missionaries, KNOW!)

It’s always great to hear someone with nothing to lose really stick it in the faces of those with lots to lose!

  4. Ventura asks: “Why is it when you ask questions about 9/11 you’re attacked…?”

    Hannity: “I’m not attacking you.”

Ventura: “…have your credibility destroyed…” (Then Mr. Ventura proceeds to posit an honest inquiry about steel melting).

    Hannity: “He’s going Rosie O’Donald on me…”

Seriously, how far up his ass is Hannity’s head; he clearly didn’t realize he just validated Ventura’s point — the one about character assassination, not 9/11 (while it may be hard for some to accept, physics allow for those buildings falling exactly the way they did. As for WTC7, we simply don’t have all the facts and I welcome an investigation).

As a side note, while I welcome skepticism, I disagree with some of the ‘truthers’ abosolute stance on the issue (the ones like Alex Jones who think this is some sort of Biblical prophecy, doomsday, anti-Christ workings). This is a dangerous mindset because by demonizing the ‘opposition’ you essentially become what you profess you’re against. The same logic in Manila’s previous post about fundamental atheists apply.

  5. In all fairness, Alex Jones doesn’t believe 9/11 had anything to do with “Biblical prophecy, doomsday” or “anti-Christ workings.” He believes 9/11 was a false flag attack similar to ones that have been used throughout history in order for the government to gain more control over its citizens. While I don’t agree with everything Jones has to say, I don’t really find his 9/11 theories all that preposterous.

  6. To make it clear, my intention isn’t to attack Alex Jones’ character, but state the danger and folly with the ultra-conspiracist mindset.

I suggested there are dangers in demonizing those you profess you’re against. Firstly, it makes people lose interest in what you are saying, irrelevant of it’s merit. Secondly this virulent hate slowly evolves, at some point you begin using the same tactics and methodology you loudly decry when used by the ‘enemy’.
(Illumined by the intense rejection of legitimate Arab suffering, by Westerners whose perspectives on the Middle East are that of crowds chanting “Death to America” or “Death to Israel”).

Thirdly, standing against something is shallow and easily corrupted. We must always define ourselves by what we stand for, not what we stand against. (A logical demonstration: when someone asks what is your nationality? You wouldn’t reply I’m not Chinese or I’m not Mexican, you would simply state what you are: American, Chinese, Mexican, etc.).
Fourthy, it reduces global events into an overly simplistic notion that ignores the many diverse players and motives encompassing the entire political spectrum.

…Okay, enough of the segue, back to Jones:

Well maybe it’s just me, but from the works of his that I’ve seen — Terror Storm, Dark Secrets: Inside Bohemian Grove, Endgame: Blueprint for Global Enslavement — it’s apparent he views the world is governed by a mysterious cult, the Illuminati, bent on a one-world-government of enslavement eerily similar to the Biblical stories of the anti-Christ. (Which is the primary reason he’s against the scientific conclusion of man-made Global Warming, as it would require a multilateral effort by the nations of the world to mitigate). Also Jones posits in Dark Secrets: Inside the Bohemian Grove that many world leaders worship some owl-like demonic statue…admittedly I’ve only seen 30 or so minutes of the documentary so I’m not sure how deep the rabbit-hole went.
Other ‘world domination-doomsday-anti-Christ’ related topics include his reasoning against microchips, as that correlates with the ‘mark of the beast’ fears. Not to mention forthcoming sequel to Endgame, as reported by Jones himself, deals with 2012 — the year the Mayans believe the world will end (December 21st, I believe).

I’m not knocking the man beliefs, some of it may even be interesting, but you should realize from what mentality these beliefs derive, and the dangers inherrent in some of them.

    Always keep in mind:
“Beware that in the name of fighting injustice you do not create injustice.” — Unknown
“At any rate, do not lend yourself to the wrong in which you condemn.” — Henry D. Thoreau
“First, do no harm.” — Ghandi?

  7. …I clearly ignored the benefits of proofreading in my previous post.

Oh, Andy I should have stated you were correct in your analysis regarding Alex Jones’s stance on 9/11. I merely attempted to examine his 9/11 view within a broader context involving his other works.

  8. Jesse “The Body” Ventura for President in 2009! Jesse was a great wrestler, a great governor, and in ‘08 if we can get enough supporters for him of the independant party, he will be a terrific President of the United States of America in 2009. I admit to voting for Obama for the Democratic Party the winter back in February of ‘08 mainly because I do not want to see another Republican in the White House for at least the next 8 years. I’ve done plenty of research on Mr. Ventura’s ideas about checks and balances along with alot of other things. He is a very intelligent individual who by far would at this present time be the best candidate running to help reform this country to where we were 8 years ago. Mr. Ventura I saw what you had to say on Larry King Live a couple of weeks ago and I just thought your ideas were outstanding. Jesse your country needs you more than ever before and I think you realize that and I just want you to know down here in Florence, Alabama we support you to the fullest degree! Jesse Ventura for President in ‘09!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. Jesse Ventura’s a more “macho” “bulk” version of Ron Paul who is more of a stamina, “ecto” guy (although it should always be remembered that AHHHHHnold was an “ecto” who got where he did by sheer determination, breaking into the gym on Sundays, etc.).

Precisely because of that, he can win, just as that sheer machismo helped him win even in a state as “nerdy” (Gene McCarthy, Walter Mondale, Paul Wellstone, etc.) as Minnesota, just as AHHHHnold’s sheer machismo helped him win in a state as pseudo-intellectual/femme-gay/lesbianation as California, a state which, like Maine, has two female Senators in almost a pre-fabricated way, as in Heather having two mommies and so forth.

For the dumb jocks of our society (read, the McCain miltarist faction of the GOP who will always be the majority, the Jesus-loves-you Huckabee crowd a far second, the country-club preppie Willard Mitt Romney kids a far third, the intellectuals and drama-rama kids analogous to the Ron Paul Revolution an even poorer fourth), “being buff” helps in being taken seriously. Ron Paul’s stamina was awesome, but he was not a true “bulk” man like Ventura, AHHHHnold, or former Maryland Governor Bob Ehrlich.

By the way, folks, did we ever expect our elections would be any better than they were in High School?

  10. Democrats give us Senators with law school training and no administrative experience. That disqualifies them. Republicans give us no administrative experience and anti-American principles. That disqualifies them. I hope that Jesse Ventura decides the seek that Libertarian Nomination because that is the only hope we have for a reasonable candidate with a chance of winning the Presidency.

  11. Run Jesse I can think of a lot of Florida Democrats and Republicans who would vote for you
