If you ever find yourself stopped by the police on Crenshaw blvd at 1am and they ask if you’re wanted for anything, never assume they’re joking and reply that you’re on parole for train robbery. Whether they take you seriously or are simply pissed that you didn’t take them seriously, what follows will undoubtedly be a long and tedious interrogation devoid of humor. If you’re a darker shade than I, cracking wise may also get you beaten unconscious.
Science has shown that the best way to avoid confrontation is to remain in front of your computer and reading leftist blogs. I got what I deserved for venturing outside. Don’t let it happen to you.

Sorry to hear about this, Manila. There are too many cases of abuse of authority by our local police forces that it’s always best to be polite when dealing with them. Think what you want but be very careful what you say.

Dang man.

It was late, so you can be excused for thinking that you lived in “the land of the brave, home of the free.”
Luckily it wasn’t Philly, where the police have just implemented the new “stop & frisk” routine, where thankfully the murder rate is down from last year, but the number of people shot by police is up.

C’mon man. The LAPD is the most hated police department in the country. They didn’t get that rep by accident. Yes, it sucks that we have to fear the people WE, the taxpayers, employ to Protect us, and it’s wrong that most of us do, but that doesn’t change the fact that they are at least humorless, and at most, downright brutal assholes.
Given your hairstyle and manner of dress, it’s a wonder they didn’t label you an “unlawful enemy combatant,” and disappear you to someplace nasty.
I’m not saying this was your fault, mind you. I’m saying that this sort of thing, much like the incident with the torch runner in San Francisco, should not be anywhere close to unexpected by now.
Sucks. Blows. Fucked.
These words, when running through the mind of an average male, are supposed to be GOOD thoughts. Damn the police for ruining it.

I grew up on Crenshaw and Jefferson, and I’m about a dozen shades darker than you. And when I was 15, I found myself facedown eating asphalt at the hands of the LAPD for “fitting a profile.” Not fun. At all. In fact, I remember how I felt. Humiliated.

Oh, I’m not complaining at all folks. Just relating something I thought was funny. C’mon, train robbery is a brilliant response.
Any encounter with the police that you can walk away from is a good encounter in my book. Having family both in law enforcement and behind bars, I’m well aware of the realities and also aware that after an officer asks for my name and I say “Harrison” instead of “Lopez” or “Hussein” that things usually change for the better. I enjoy a certain level of privilege and I’m well aware of it.

By the way J Milton, I didn’t know you grew up on Crenshaw. Behind the Del Amo Mall? I went to high school near there, but grew up on the border of Torrance and Gardena near El Camino College.
I also must correct you on being a dozen shades darker. It got up to 100 degrees here last week, so I’m at least three shades darker than winter time Manila.
