“Late Late Show” host Craig Ferguson is an exceptionally hilarious man, but he bombed terribly at the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner last night. Luckily, no one was watching. The funniest/most awkward moment is below, but if you feel like subjecting yourself to the entire thing, CSJ has part 1, part 2, and part 3.

are you nuts, he was hilarious

So C-SPAN is using a laughtrack now? And all those people standing and clapping at the end were what, paid extras? He was funny yet poignant and he dared to tell the truth, something this reporter might want to think about doing.

He missed the mark several times and was obviously nervous, but he did do very well at the end by being straight up and funny at the same time, which is what he does best.
I think it’s hard to get a handle on what that audience will respond to so he tried a bit of everything - some of which worked and much of which, didn’t.
He needs to be braver about being a genuine social critic, which is his forte - whether he knows it or not.

By and large, Ferguson managed to be funny without being overly controversial, which is a far sight more than the White House Correspondents’ Dinner has seen in the past couple years. Some jokes didn’t go over well and he was nervous, but he kept being funny in spite of it. I count the night as a success.

Craig far from bombed. Rich Little last year … he bombed. Craig was obviously nervous. A recently sworn in US citizen, this was the first time he ever had to perform infront of a notoriously hard to please audience. Yes he was nervous, yes he wasn’t brilliantly spectacular (which in some ways is good as he wasn’t trying his hardest to be the center of attention, even though that was the position he was obviously put in), but he was god enough to get most of the audience to warm up to him since I’m sure most were aprehensive of what they might have to endure, whether it would another round of cutting satire like from Colbert, or a another dreary played out performance like from Little. Craig found middle ground and did very well.

Did you catch any of Bush’s stand-up routine? Well, I did and this guys has ‘em hangin’ and clangin’! When he tries to make fun of the canddiates he is deiinitely engaging in what the psychologists call projection.
As to this clip…I guess he was having a ‘McCain Moment’ there on the bit about Barney humping the Pope’s leg! And this nimnul has been the “leader of the ‘free’ world” these seven plus long years now?

P.S. sorry about the typos…I was laughing at the clip while I should have been paying attention to my keystrokes… MLR

Bombed? Really? I thought he did a great job. It’s not his type of room - he’s more used to being himself among people who choose to watch him - but given the history of this event and the entertainment chosen for it, he took just enough jabs and spread them around enough to amuse most people without overly offending any but the most uptight (remind you of anyone?).

Craig Ferguson has a very Nervous sense of humor, he acts this way on his show, it makes him so FUNNY when he admits to his own weaknesses… he has even said once that he was a very nervous man…he is the best in my book…Cinnamon
