In the northern Gaza town of Beit Hanoun, four children and an elderly man were killed as an Israeli shell hit their house as they were eating breakfast together. The children’s mother was taken to the hospital, but later died as well. The children were between the ages of seven months and five years old. The dead included a teenager who was walking past the house on his way to school.
This is not the first time tragedy has struck the town of Beit Hanoun. In 2006, the Israeli military drastically reduced their ’safety’ margins, despite being warned of an inevitable increase in Palestinian civilian deaths and injuries. This resulted in 19 members of an extended family being killed by Israeli tank shells as they slept.
Al Jazeera correspondent David Chater reported that “an overwhelming feeling of bitterness and shock” consumed neighbors as pools of blood and twisted shrapnel littered the street. One neighbor, said; “A family was sitting and have their breakfast here and now what? We come to pick up their body parts.” Farmer Omar Abdel Nabi said he was driving his tractor in a nearby field when at least two explosions shook the area. “People were screaming that a tank shell landed in the next street. I carried two people covered in blood out of a house,” he said.
The Israeli Army expressed no remorse as usual, using the standard excuse that the air and tank attack was focused on a group of armed men nearby. A spokeswoman for the Israeli military said the operation was launched to “ensure that rocket crews, snipers and tunnel diggers are kept away from the border”. Hamas has offered Israel a 6-month truce if it lifts the illegal embargo on occupied Gaza, but Israel has refused the offer of peace in favor of collective punishment and ethnic cleansing.

Will this get covered by the morally bankrupt MSM?

Unfortunately they were used as Human Shilelds by Hamas terrorists. Why don’t they operate from fields, forests, or from underground like the Vietcong did? Why do they have to endanger their own children firing rockets from residential areas? This is unspeakable cruelty to their own people.

@Andy
You’re either operating from a different computer and entered a different email address, or you’re a different Andy from the one who normally comments here. I suspect the latter, so let me introduce you to some concepts.
Firstly, Hamas is not a terrorist group (regardless of what the US says), and even if they were, blaming them for Israeli shelling is ridiculous. Secondly, Hamas does not use “human shields”, unlike the Israeli army which has been known to force civilians at gunpoint to enter homes of suspected militants ahead of them. Israel and the US claim Hamas, Hezbollah, and any resistance group is using “human shields” to explain the high death of innocents when they illegally bomb a highly populated civilian area. If the LAPD were hunting down gang members would they be in the right to shell an entire neighborhood and blame the following civilian deaths on gang members using “human shields”? Of course not, and who would fall for that bullshit line? Israel has no right to shell civilian areas, but Hamas has every right to exist as a legitimate resistance against illegal occupation.

Indeed, it was not me. I’ve registered to prevent any future confusion.

Apparently you have little to no familiarity with established international law which explicitly accepts the precepts of just war theory.
Israeli soldiers do not intentionally target non-combatants and the attack is always carried out in the pursuit of a military objective.
If Hamas were operating in a civilian free zone, there would be no civilian casualties. Time and time again they have chosen to put their own population at risk in order to wantonly kill and target Israeli civilians as well as off duty soldiers. Who is the one acting unjustly?

“Israeli soldiers do not intentionally target non-combatants and the attack is always carried out in the pursuit of a military objective.”
Are you sure about that? You should try telling that to my good friend who got the sh*t kicked out of him by a group of 30 Israeli soldiers, when he was just sitting on the side of the road.
And that’s just one story in a million.

@Ari Cohen
“Apparently you have little to no familiarity with established international law which explicitly accepts the precepts of just war theory.”
Actually Ari, you have little to no familiarity with the facts. Since when was occupation a “just war” and Israel’s actions accepted by the international community? What international law actually does state is that people suffering from colonial oppression have the right to take up arms. Resistance to occupation is legitimate under international law, and killing civilians is a war crime. Plain and simple. Israel has been committing war crimes under international law for decades.
“Israeli soldiers do not intentionally target non-combatants…”
Ha, what bullshit. That statement is so absurd when juxtaposed to the reality of Beit Hanoun in particular that it’s not even worth arguing. Anyone whose head isn’t up their ass can see the truth (if they care to look for it). I too know someone who was targeted by the IDF.
“…and the attack is always carried out in the pursuit of a military objective.”
Yes, and that military objective is apartheid and ethnic cleansing. Again, that’s the international community saying that.
“If Hamas were operating in a civilian free zone, there would be no civilian casualties.”
And if Israel weren’t violating international law by occupying and shelling Palestine then there would also be no civilian casualties or even the need for armed resistance. Odd how that works, I know.
“Who is the one acting unjustly?”
Probably the aggressors. They’re the ones with tanks, planes, soldiers, and nuclear warheads who enact collective punishment against civilian populations, but go ahead and ask the UN to make sure.
