Moyers discusses the racist double standard in the corporate press which has led to the lynching of Reverend Wright. Sorry Keith, but Bill Moyers is the real Edward R. Murrow of our generation.

I’m a fan of Bill Moyers Journal on PBS, he has had some wonderful episodes, in particular “Buying the War”, which documents the MSM’s cheerleading in the lead up to the Iraq War (link below). And this segment was filled with some often neglected points in the MSM, such as commentary on Wright’s “chickens are coming home to roost” statement and the double standard in condemning Wright but giving leeway to Hagee, Dobson, Robertson, Falwell, Graham, and insert televangelist _______.
That being said, I have two criticisms with Moyers’ essay on Wright. First, Moyers began with an introduction which used the past tense when describing the probable reasons for Wright’s indignation. He mentioned the slave ships, slavery, three-fifths compromise and Jim Crow policies, but fails to mention the growing economic distress and institutional racism blacks face TODAY. (Widely documented for those willing to look).
Secondly, although I agree with Moyers assessment that Wright’s statements regarding AIDS being perpertrated by the government was ‘outlandish’, it seems some of the criticisms of Wrights “offensive opinions” placed parallel to offensive opinions of less than forthcoming televangelists almost equates the two. I think we will all agree that comments made by Robertson is miles away from comments made by Wright.

Stellar journalism documenting the MSM’s willing assistance in the lead up to war in Iraq.
