“It is far better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”

After Adolph Hitler dissolved Austria into the Third Reich, he then began to demand that the German minority in Czechoslovakia also be reunited with the fatherland. In 1938, British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain appeased Hitler out of fear by signing the Munich Agreement, which annexed Czechoslovakia’s heavily fortified Sudetenland to Nazi Germany. Hitler invaded the rest of Czechoslovakia the following year.

Anyone who honestly tries to compare Nazi Germany to modern day Iran either has no clue about World War II, no clue about Iran, or both. Kevin James operates under the notion that the loudest debater wins the argument, but Matthews has a rare moment of journalistic integrity by not letting him pull the Nazi card. James references a moment in history he is clearly ignorant of, and Matthews does not let him get away with it. At least temporarily, Chris deserves the title of “bus driver” for taking James to school.

  1. I saw this last night. Played it several times, laughing my ass off.

Even though Kevin knew he was a dumbass, he kept arguing, louder and louder. Chris should have cut his mike off… O’Liely style.

  2. Ouch!

“Chris should have cut his mike off… O’Liely style.”
As Napoleon remarked, “never interupt your enemy while he’s making a mistake.” Besides demonstrating the absurd shouting war right-wingers employ while ‘debating’, this segment unequivocally proves Kevin James’ opinions lack historical context.

  3. It is far better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”

Speaking of that, where’s Greg Palast? Didn’t he say that the computer files captured by FARC and recently unauthenticated by Interpol where fake? Why is he so quiet now?

  4. This is pretty awesome. I’m no fan of his philosophy or style, but if nothing else, Chris Matthews is a student of history (especially American political history). So he should really challenge his guests like this more often — particularly the ignorant, war-mongering ones. I hope the wild popularity of this video gives him the courage to use his intellect for something more than blowing hot air, his usual specialty. Did you see the profile in the nytimes on him a few weeks ago? It was so relentlessly eviscerating, I actually felt bad for the guy. But this clip gives me hope!

Partisan talking heads are the bane of American culture and they must be stopped.

  5. God, I swear…

What the fuck is up with the Right Wing NeoCon Fake Christian mentality? I mean, is this fucking MAGIC? If we repeat the same incantation over and over and over again, does it somehow make it true?

    JESUS!!

I listen to talk radio. They have what they call a “mute button.”

Apparently, this technology is beyond Cable TV’s capability.

  6. And yet…. ‘appeaser’ is a nice little tag, a nice little box for all the narrow minds to put Obama in. I’m not a huge fan of the guy, but I think if it’s down to Clinton, Obama, or McCain… well I don’t want to see Clinton or McCain win this election…. although that’s in no way saying that people should be voting with the ‘lesser of two evils’ argument in mind. You should always vote for the candidate or party who shares your views and ideals.
But there’s no point in looking at the flaws Obama’s substance, the flaws in his policies, because for Clinton and the Rebuplicans it’s about slapping these buzzwords on him to create a body of popular opinion about the guy.
Undoubtedly Kevin James will go back to his radio show to scream ‘appeaser’ and ‘Neville Chamberlain’ down the microphone until he’s blue in the face, because that’s what people who can only spare 5 minutes for their democracy want to hear, the whole situation summed up in one word, repeated as often enough and loud enough to have it branded on their minds.
And when the small minded cows with are herded into the polling booths they just need to look at the fresh, still-smoking brandings on their asses saying ‘Obama’ along with ‘appeaser’ or ‘inexperienced’ or (for West Virginia cows) ‘Muslim’ or ‘black’ to make a decision.
Whatever happened to judging someone by the content of their character?

  7. if only he did this more often - matthews did this because James is a no-one. he would not do it to a Tom Delay or Ann Coulter. those guests he “needs”
    matthews is a phony

  8. That was pretty funny, but Matthews is such an asshole. It was pretty embarrassing for him that after making such a big issue of James not knowing about history, Matthews stated at the end he thought the USS Cole bombing took place during the Bush administration.

It’s the like a dumb kid in school who remembers one fact and then goes around looking for people who don’t.

  9. The USS Cole was bombed in the waning months (Oct. 2000) of Clinton’s final term. The issue overlapped into Bush’s first term. Honest mistake.

Kevin James (lawyer) is, unfortunately, a prime example of a reactionary, right-wing, mouth breathing, wind bag who has no credentials to cogently speak on topics he is expected to on a regular basis. Like Michael Savage (nutritional ethnomedicine) or Ann Coulter (another lawyer). Ann Coulter, by the way, seems to think Canada sent troops to Vietnam. I love it when these ill-mannered twits get, as the kids say, pwned.

  10. yes, definite pwnage here

and may i just say: wow.
