By tossing out the possibility of having direct diplomacy with Iran, John McCain has shown that he is in favor of more of the same failed strategies which lead nations to war. War is not the last option to the US and AIPAC, it’s the only option. The US and Israel are committing “crimes against peace” under the UN Charter and Nuremberg Principles with rhetoric that prepares the groundwork for moving against Iran militarily. Outright lies and “what if” scenarios are irresponsibly catapulted into the public to validate imperialist dreams of nuclear annihilation.

Outside the Western corporate media bubble, it is clear that the US and Israel have been the true threats to peace in the region by making conflict unavoidable. Despite the glaring historical failure of their policies, both countries remain in denial - consistently patting each other on the back to affirm that they’re sane while the rest of the world is unreasonable. And this intentional ignorance is not confined to just the ultra-right wing of both nations. Listen to the following excerpt from Barack Obama to AIPAC and tell me it doesn’t sound like it was lifted from John McCain’s speech.
Now lets sift through the bullshit by analyzing exactly what Barack has said about this manufactured issue.
The Iranian regime supports violent extremists and challenges us across the region.
First off, Iran does support what the US calls “violent extremists” that “challenge us across the region”. They’re not terrorists though, they’re fighting occupation. Were the US not in the region, these “extremists” wouldn’t be fighting it. End the violent US occupation and you end the violent resistance to it. Simple.
It pursues a nuclear capability that could spark a dangerous arms race, and raise the prospect of a transfer of nuclear know-how to terrorists.
Iran is not pursuing “a nuclear capability”. Apparently, Barack is just as ignorant about the NIE as Clinton and McCain. His statement is an outright lie to push an agenda. The head of the IAEA has also repeatedly insisted that there is no evidence Iran is seeking nuclear weapons. Why would Iran attempt to fight a bully as powerful as the United States on their terms when inexpensive guerrilla warfare has proven much more successful? Ahmadinejad has laughed at such nuclear accusations for that very reason.
Its President denies the Holocaust and threatens to wipe Israel off the map.
Firstly, Iran’s President does “deny the Holocaust”, but that’s hardly a reason to go to war unless “thought crimes” now put him in the same league as Hitler. It’s conveniently overlooked that wars are waged against the people of a country, not their leaders. In waring against Iran because Ahmadinejad denies the Holocaust, you are punishing innocent people with a Holocaust of your own. In denying that reality of war, the US and Israel are guilty of the same thought crime as Iran’s president.
Secondly, Obama’s claim that Ahmadinejad has threatened to “wipe Israel off the map” is also a lie, and a fairly well-discredited one at that. What Iran’s president has said is that the “Zionist regime” will come to an end. If I declare that Neo-Conservatism in the US is bound to collapse, I am obviously not wishing that the entire population of America be vaporized. Surely Obama must be capable of understanding Ahmadinejad’s statement, otherwise he is truly too ignorant to deal in international relations.
The danger from Iran is grave, it is real, and my goal will be to eliminate this threat.
Obama pronounces that he will “eliminate this threat” which is Iran. Hell, that’s more of a declaration to wipe a country “off the map” than anything Ahmadinejad has ever made. Oh, and by the way, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has no power in Iranian foreign policy, making everything Obama just said about him irrelevant to his case against Iran. You’d think that the next president of the United States would know that Iranian foreign policy is dependent upon the Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
So why not quote Khamenei instead? Because the Supreme Leader’s reserved character is not exactly the best marketing device to sell a war. You need a loud and controversial figure like Ahmadinejad to rally the American public to war, regardless of whether he actually holds any power to be the threat you make him out to be. If Americans are under the impression that Iran’s president not only has the intention, but the power to attack Israel, then it’s the role of the president to disabuse that ignorance, not reinforce it.
Obama is starting to do the same with respect to Iran that the Bush administration did over Iraq. He should be ashamed of himself. Liberals expect this kind of pro-war pandering from McCain, but not from the “change” candidate… and that’s exactly what makes Obama all the more dangerous.
