Amid wide protests, the electoral defeat of pro-Musharraf parties, and impending impeachment charges from the ruling opposition, President Musharraf has officially resigned. Al Jazeera takes a brief look back at his turbulent career.

Though Pakistan was a military dictatorship under Musharraf, the majority of Pakistanis have expressed some concern that more radical elements may now attempt to fill the power vacuum. If such a movement does arise, civil war is a possibility.

  1. This is truly frightening. Musharraf was an asshole, but at least he wasn’t insane. Tensions are still running high between the two nuclear armed nations of India and Pakistan, and it would only take one lunatic to trigger something nasty.
