Tommy Douglas, Canadian politician, gives us a colorful explanation for the capitalist system. This is his magnum opus, I give you ‘Mouseland’.

  1. Well, to be fair, this is NOT about just plain old Capitalism. It’s about Crony Capitalism/Corporatism; people using government for their narrow, greedy, self-interest, cloaked into Capitalism rhetoric. This definition definitely is appropriate for much of the current US system and some others, but is not a reflection of other Capitalist systems (some of which work, others which do not). This video does not apply to:

Social Capitalism/Social Democracy (support wealth redistribution, equality policies. Not difficult to corrupt of course)

“Libertarian” Capitalism (small government, hard to use government directly for corruption - though farming out the few services the government DOES provide makes it so that it can evolve into Corporatism very easy)

“Objectivist” Capitalism (not “abusive” (though not kind) in the literature, but certainly easily turned into Crony Capitalism)

Anarcho-Capitalism (no government, so this sort of thing is not possible. Simply abusive in its own right)

It doesn’t even apply to textbook Neoliberalism, even though Crony Capitalism tends to evolve easily from that system as well (like in the US and South American Neoliberal experiments).

Short version: this video is about corrupted Capitalist systems that actually have a government, not Capitalist systems on their own or on paper.

  2. Is this the same Kiefer Sutherland who stars in the far right wing TV series “24″?

    What the hell?!

    That’s like 1+1=potatos
