1. I’m not a big fan of family guy, because it plays into the pessimism and cynicism that so pervades our society. This particular clip mocks both “hope” and homeless people, both very serious issues. I know, it’s all in fun. Believe me, I love a good laugh, but at what expense.

   I understand progressives are very suspect of Obama’s use of the word “hope.” I am too. However, hope is serious business, and if one offers hope, he’d better deliver or people will be angry. We progressives must be critical of Obama (even though we may have supported him) and be willing to mobilize a protest in response to any nihilistic policies he might propose. Every indication of his behavior so far makes me think he will or wants to respond to public pressure. Let’s give him what he wants.
