A boat containing 3 1/2 tonnes of medical aid and 16 activists has docked in the Lebanese port of Tyre having been rammed  by the Israeli navy. Onboard was former Congresswoman and Green party presidential candidate Cynthia McKinney, along with 15 other members of the Free Gaza Movement. The incident occured in international waters.

McKinney had notified her supporters via email that she planned to embark on the aid mission a few days prior. Since the incident occured only a few hours ago news is slow to come out. We do know, however, that there were no fatalities and no reported injuries. The aid workers were greeted by Lebanese and Palestinians when they reached port.

An absolutely disgraceful act upon many others, carried out by a state that looks more like Somali pirates than a legitimate government. I would hope that the international community and citizens of many nations condemn this shameful and illegal action.

One of the passengers and Free Gaza movement member, Derek Graham said “We are determined to go to Gaza and we are looking for another boat”.

CNN journalist Karl Penhaul was on board at the time of the attack and it has duly been covered on CNN.

The Israeli navy accused the boat of being involved in ‘terrorist activities’.
