Fox News is Propaganda - This Message Brought to You by Fox News

February 23rd, 2008 by Manila Ryce

Comedian Lee Camp calls Fox News a “parade of propaganda” and a “festival of ignorance” while live on the air. The host is speechless, but tries to drown him out and salvage Fox’s image as a legitimate news source once he realizes what just happened. It was already too late.

The really amusing part is that this isn’t the first time Lee Camp has railed against Republicans and the war on Fox. Camp has previously served them their asses before on the show Red Eye (observe below), yet they were stupid enough to invite him back.

Leonardo DiCaprio Determined to Ruin Akira

February 21st, 2008 by Manila Ryce

Actor Leonardo DiCaprio will be testing his filmmaking ability by using the anime classic “Akira” as his guinea pig. The original “Akira” takes place in 2019, and deals with the member of a biker gang who is subjected to government experiments which unleash his latent powers. “Akira” started out as a manga in 1988 and was directed into an animated film by Katsuhiro Otomo.

DiCaprio has made the ingenious decision to alter the original story by making it a “two-part epic” and setting it in “New Manhattan” instead of “New Tokyo”. Millions of fans around the world are eagerly awaiting the day when this new American version will completely taint their appreciation of a once classic work of art. I’m sure George Lucas and whoever the hell did the American Godzilla movie both have something to do with this.

Good Night and Good Luck Olbermann

January 24th, 2008 by Manila Ryce

Fellow 35%er Davis Fleetwood asks, “Where have you gone Keith Olbermann?” When the people obstructing democracy are not in the Bush administration but are instead sitting behind the desk where Olbermann’s checks are written, Keith remains shamefully silent. How can he criticize the puppets at “Fox Noise” when he bends over just the same for his corporate masters at MSNBC? What the Left truly needs are unbiased journalists with integrity, not partisan hacks who are simply the flip side of Rush Limbaugh. We don’t need supposed anti-war cheerleaders, employed by military contractors, pandering to whatever safe topic will get them higher ratings. General Electric makes money off the war, but they also make money off of anti-war viewers who tune in to see Olbermann.

On the night of the “debate”, without any added commentary, Olbermann simply reported that the Nevada Supreme Court had ruled in GE/NBC’s favor that is was acceptable to exclude Dennis from the event. Olbermann then moved on to cover the horse race between the “three remaining” Democrats, and that was the end of it. The following day, Keith remained silent on the subject and decided to shoot fish in a barrel by naming Republican candidates as the “Worst Persons in the World” rather than address the actual elephant in the room - the corporate farce that he was a part of.

Shame on you Keith. It’s far too late for an apology. We want restitution for the damage you’ve done. I personally think that inviting all of the Democratic candidates (including Gravel) on Countdown to discuss the actual issues would be a start. Anyone who thinks that’s too much to ask from MSNBC obviously doesn’t think much of democracy. They’ve done this country a great disservice and are obligated to correct their mistake. Until then, we won’t be watching.

I’m sure you have your own complaints and suggestions to give Keith and MSNBC. Tell them what you think by writing to the addresses below:

The Colbert Report – Stephen’s Impersonation of Tom Cruise

January 23rd, 2008 by Manila Ryce

A lot of you are confused about Scientology’s legitimacy, so let me sum up the lineage like this: Xenu begat Tom Cruise the Messiah, who begat Gorlock, the financial advisor of Stephen Colbert, who had a Meta-Free-Phor-All with Sean Penn, who starred in Mystic River with Kevin Bacon.

RIP: Heath Ledger Found Dead

January 22nd, 2008 by Manila Ryce

I didn’t know him, but I once met Heath while working as an art store cashier in Hollywood. He seemed very shy and didn’t make much eye contact. Much different from his roles at the time as a cocky teenage heartthrob. It’s ashame that he’s passed away so soon, just as he was coming into his own as an actor. I wrote the following in July of 2006 when I found out Ledger was playing The Joker in the upcoming Batman film: “…following up Jack Nicholson’s portrayal may be a death sentence.” Damn, I didn’t mean it literally.

The actor Heath Ledger was found dead this afternoon in an apartment in Manhattan, according to the New York City police. Signs pointed to a suicide or an accidental overdose, police sources said. Mr. Ledger was 28.

At 3:31 p.m., according to the police, a masseuse arrived the fourth-floor apartment of the building, at 421 Broome Street, between Crosby and Lafayette Streets in SoHo, for an appointment with Mr. Ledger. The masseuse was let in to the home by a housekeeper, who then knocked on the door of the bedroom Mr. Ledger was in. When no one answered, the housekeeper and the masseuse opened the bedroom and found Mr. Ledger naked and unconscious on a bed, with sleeping pills — both prescription medication and nonprescription — on a night table. They moved his body to the floor and attempted to revive him, but he did not respond. They immediately called the authorities.

The police said they did not suspect foul play. Ellen Borakove, a spokeswoman for the office of the city’s chief medical examiner, Dr. Charles S. Hirsch, said that employees of the office were at the apartment and that an autopsy would be conducted on Wednesday.

The specifics keep changing as the story develops, so check the source for the most recent update.

Innovation by Any Means Necessary

January 14th, 2008 by J. Milton

In recent years as filesharing has become more widespread and user-friendly, the entertainment industry has done it’s best to vilify all those who dare to defy their copyrights. No longer distinguishing between those who sell and those who share, the industry has tried to sue and/or criminalize so-called pirates out of existence. But perhaps pirates are not their enemy after all. This article over at TorrentFreak offers a very different perspective on piracy through a brief historical analysis. Below is an exerpt:

“Piracy is the sharp end of innovation, innovation by any means necessary. Large oligopolies control most of our industries and governments. Six companies control most of what we see and hear. According to The World Bank’s 2007 figures, roughly two-thirds the world’s 150 largest economies aren’t nations, but corporations. We all know the system doesn’t work quite the way it’s supposed to, yet continue to think of this inefficient system we have as ‘the free market’. Pirates upend inefficient systems – they take order and create short-term chaos, but often the long-term result of piracy on a large scale is a better system - a more efficient way of doing things. Pirates created many of our established orders out of chaos, and now that these industries are becoming inefficient in the face of new technologies, chaos is being created once again.”

The Onion - American Schools Trail Behind World in Aptitude of Child Soldiers

January 9th, 2008 by Manila Ryce

A shocking new study finds US children lag far behind in subjects like rifle assembly and mine defusing. Thank God we have Army recruiters to help where our schools fail, but it’s still not enough.

A Web Classic: Nutri-Grain

December 26th, 2007 by Manila Ryce

Turnpike Films created this now classic commercial spot for Kellogg’s Nutri-Grain cereal bars for their demo reel in 2003. This unofficial spot was posted on their website, and soon became one of the greatest and earliest viral videos ever circulated. The legal issues that followed forced Turnpike to shut down their site, but their work can still be found on YouTube for all to enjoy.
